Chenin Blanc - White South African Wine

Wine of Stellenbosch, South Africa

This Chenin Blanc is crafted with the exact same detail, harvested from traditional bush vines and delivering ripe zesty pineapple, pear and white peach with a refreshing lime acidity.

The proud history of Stellenrust, founded by master stonemason and builder of the Castle of Good Hope, Douwe Steyn, is depicted in the gabled manor house on the 1692 Stellenrust wine farm. Our legacy is captured behind the architecture established in the Cape winelands by this historical figure.

History: Stellenrust was established in 1692 as a wine grape producing farm by one of the first Dutch settlers to the Cape. Today, it remains one of the largest family owned wineries and one of the best known producers for Chenin Blanc in South Africa. With several family farms surrounding the South African wine heartland of Stellenbosch, Stellenrust is pionering the way forward for the new age of South African wines.

Regional information: Stellenbosch is known as the heart of South Africa's wine industry and the Bottelary Hills ward in Stellenbosch as the heart of South African old vine Chenin Blanc. Vineyards are planted on an array of soil types, such as decomposed granite, sand, clay and slate, delivering varying flavours and diversity to Chenin blanc.

Vinification: Grapes are carefully harvested. The juice is then drawn off into a special selection of barrels and allowed to ferment naturally. Fermentation took just under 8 months to finish and the wine was kept on the fermentation lees for an additional 1 month to increase the texture and complexity in the finished wine.
